What Is El Sadar Stadium?
El Sadar Stadium is a football arena in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain. It hosts the home matches of C.A. Osasuna, an important football club of LALIGA ES SPORTS. After a complete restructuring and major revamp, El Sadar currently has a capacity of 25,516 viewers. The original El Sadar Stadium dates back to 1967.
The old El Sadar stadium opened on 2 September 1967.
After thirty years of use, the club decided to reform its football structure to meet “La Liga” requirements. The new stadium replaced the old one at the same location, carrying the same name and parts of the old structure.
El Sadar Stadium Location
This construction is in the south of Pamplona, the capital of Navarra. You can easily get to El Sadar by bus from the center of Pamplona. Two bus lines, L11 and L16, are available.
The L11 route. It crosses the entire city from north to south.
The closest stops to the El Sadar stadium are C/Sadar Edificio El Sario, 235 meters away, and Pamplona/Iruña C/Sadar F/6, 433 meters from the stadium.
You can also easily reach the stadium by car by driving along the PA-31 that crosses the city from north to south. This stadium has a good parking lot, so you will have no problems parking your car.
Address: C. del Sadar, s/n, 31006 Pamplona, Navarra, Spain.
The Project Red Wall
In 2018, Ossasuna had to renovate the stadium, as it didn’t meet the league’s requirements. Consequently, the club called for a tender to build a new stadium by rehabilitating the old one, which dates back to 1967. This project was called “Muro Rojo,” or Red Wall. The Osasuna fans committed to selecting the best project for this football building.
The fans decided that OFS Arquitectos from Gran Canaria was the winning architecture studio for the project. This new design featured a consistent structure and strong presentation that truly reflected the club’s spirit. This new Red Wall design proposes extensive amenities and a vertical expansion that would unify the complex.
Business boxes and a new presidential suite were created in the grandstand as an integral part of the work carried out. This way the stands gained space and dimension. On the first floor, the architects decided to build offices for the club staff, a conference room, and a media space.
The VIP area now has a capacity for 1,389 people, 450 more than before. The firm also included new 1,272 metal seats on the lower level of the south stand, which allow comfortable cheering and take up little space when folded.
In addition, the Red Wall project also includes three stands, which gained an extra tier. The project also installed two 14.4×6 meter screens under the steel roof structure. These new displays are the second largest in Spain, only behind those at the Levante venue.
The Colour of Osasuna and its Impressive Facade
Osauna’s iconic red hue dominates the stadium, adorning everything from the seats to the walls, and even the top ring. Even the area where the two teams gather before kickoff is painted red. The only splash of blue comes from the massive blue inscription proudly declaring, “CA Osasuna!” As dusk falls, the upper part of the outer facade undergoes a color transformation, echoing the energy of matches with a fiery red glow.
El Sadar Stadium Architecture
The architecture of El Sadar is very revolutionary. It proposes a two-way exterior form that reveals and hides the structural elements simultaneously. The lower level is characterized by a transparent, impressive, and pristine rectangle that allows you to see everything that happens inside, especially at night. This rectangle is separated from the ground by columns and partitions, giving the impression that it is floating. It is really an interesting piece of architecture.
The top shape, the giant red ring, marks the upper division of the building. It has sharp edges and no corners and is one of the stadium’s best architectural features.
The major revamp combined the old structure with the new, as can be seen in the image above. The new structure provides reinforced concrete for the low rectangular shape. The new roof resembles a giant red ring and has a structure of steel beams that ensure its entire extension in the four stands.
