Spanish football boasts some of the world’s most renowned clubs, ranging from giants like Real Madrid to smaller yet notable ones like Celta de Vigo, Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, and UD Almería. While the latter may not enjoy as much recognition on a global scale, it commands a significant presence in the southern region of Spain. Despite its lower profile, UD Almería boasts a modest yet impressive stadium that stands tall alongside its counterparts across the country.
The name of this stadium is the Power Horse Stadium, an arena in constant change and evolution inaugurated a few years ago. Let’s check everything about this interesting piece of football structure!

What Is the Power Horse Stadium?
The Power Horse Stadium hosts the home matches of UD Almería or Unión Deportiva Almería, the most important football club of Almería, the capital of the homonymic province. The Power Horse Stadium came to replace the old stadium of the club, the Estadio Juan Rojas. With an investment of 21 million euros, made for the XV Almería 2005 Mediterranean Games, the sporting venue is managed by Almeria City Council. It opened on July 31, 2004.
Back then, the Power Horse Stadium went by the name “Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.” The stadium underwent a name change after its first renovation in August 2021 and the Ayuntamiento de Almería’s decision to lease it to UD Almería for 25 years. Additionally, Power Horse Energy Drinks GmbH struck a multimillion-euro deal with the club as part of the agreement.
Key features:
- Capacity: 17,400
- Cost. €18 million
- Size. 105 meters x 68 meters.
The current state of the Power Horse Stadium.
Due to its athletic track, the Power Horse incorporates temporary stands with a capacity of 15,000. The extra seats are located between the front seats and the athletics track. These stands can be removed for a better view during football matches.
Remodeling and Renovation
The second phase of the remodeling process with the additional seats.
In 2019, after the Saudi Turki Al-Sheik became the new president of the club, certain renovations and a complete refurbishment took place. These renovations expanded the stadium’s capacity; the Power Horse Stadium gained a new facade, and all the seats were painted red.
The second phase of the renovation plan involves lowering the football pitch and definitely removing the temporary stands to build reinforced concrete stands. These additional seats will give the stadium a more footballing look.
Spain Power Horse Stadium Location

The club and municipality strategically planned the location of the stadium, and it’s accessible from most parts of the city and surroundings.

Power Horse Stadium Architecture
The Power Horse Stadium’s architecture is very simple. It consists of a basic structure of reinforced concrete on the ground level and a steel beam ceiling. In other words, its architectural structure is a classic, featuring stands of reinforced concrete on two different levels. These stands integrate comfortable seats that allow the crew to see the match perfectly from all corners of the arena.
Power Horse Stadium Facilities
Although the Power Horse Stadium is a classic football stadium—it does not have modern technology or special VIP boxes—it still has some fundamental facilities that we will summarize below.
Training Ground
The Power Horse Stadium includes a training ground where the youth players of the local football club can train on a professional pitch. This ground is the same size as the main football pitch and includes all the services that the Spanish cadets need to complete their training and reach the goal.
For better results, the team changes the grass every season, replacing the winter grass called Ryegrass with a summer grass called Bermuda Islands. This ground is in La Vega de Acá, at the side of the Power Horse arena.
Corporate, Press, and Company Boxes
The Power Horse Stadium has several special boxes for companies, press, and corporations that want to witness the matches or plan special occasions for employees or stakeholders. These boxes have a privileged view of the football field and special services. From these boxes, professionals can watch goals like nowhere in the stadium.
Gym
The Power Horse Stadium also has a wide area for training dedicated to professional football players and other athletes who visit the stadium. This gym has all the machines and tools for physical preparation. It also covers a significant part of the stadium’s low level, with multiple rooms dedicated to physical exercise. This section is undoubtedly the most important part of the stadium, after the football pitch.
The Power Horse Arena as Part de los Juegos Mediterráneos
The Mediterranean Games, or Juegos Mediterraneos, in Spanish, is a special competition that has rivaled the Olympic Games since the half of the past century. Yet, this competition only involves countries from the Mediterranean Sea, such as Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and others. Its final goal is to promote sports and bring countries of different cultures and religions together.
The Power Horse Stadium was the main arena of this competition, offering a running track and several world-class dependencies. This competition brought multiple benefits to the town, enticing tourists and many people from Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Power Horse Stadium Tickets
The Power Horse Stadium allows fans to acquire a subscription for three, six, or nine months. The price of the subscription will depend on which part of the stadium you want to witness the matches and which age group you belong to. In general, subscriptions go from 105€ for kids to 1,015€ for adults.
